One of the most annoying pests one could have in their home is bed bugs. The tricky thing about bed bugs though is that most of the time you are probably ignorant of their existence in your home. Due to their size and nocturnal behavior, sometimes it’s hard to detect them. However, if you suspect that you have an infestation of bed bugs in your home, there are a few things that you could do to kill them.
The first thing that one needs to understand about bed bugs is that these critters feed on blood from their host. The host in this instance would be you, the homeowner as well as any family members in your house. Thus to kill bed bugs, you would have to ensure they have no access to their food. This can be done by moving the bed and any other furniture away from walls and crevices. Bed bugs cannot fly, instead they climb and jump. By removing the possibility of them getting to you, you are effectively cutting their source of food. In addition to this, you should coat the legs of you bed as well as any other furniture with a two inch thick layer of petroleum jelly. This will hinder the bed bugs from climbing onto the furniture as well as the bed.
Another method you could employ to kill bed bugs would be to cover the bed and furniture with sticky tape. This will be a measure of trapping the bed bugs when they attempt to climb up the furniture as they will get caught on the sticky tape. You can have a look at the sticky tape after a couple of nights to check if there are any bed bugs that have been trapped on it. Sticky tape is also a good method of detecting whether or not you have an infestation of bed bugs in the first place.
Lastly, one could resort to the use of insecticide if they would like to annihilate bed bugs. Most insecticides come in either the form of an aerosol or dust. Bed bugs tend to hide out in cracks or crevices in the walls. You would have to locate these hiding places and then either spray them with the insecticide or apply copious amounts of insecticide dust into the cracks. Bed bugs are visible to the human eye thus if you have found the hiding places, you are sure to find the bed bugs hiding in them.
